Arabia Felix ('Fertile Arabia') was the name given to southern Arabia by the Romans in classical times. It covers present day Yemen, including Socotra, and the southernmost province of Oman - Dhofar. Both Yemen and Dhofar were prolific producers of frankincense from the 8th century BC up until the 3rd century AD. The photographs on this site were taken in this southern region of the Arabian peninsula; these images represent something of its environment, flora and fauna, and people including their heritage and culture.
